Drawing
inspiration from the imagery of the countless journeys that the Great Indian
Desert has experienced over centuries, designer duo Shantanu & Nikhil
christened their latest Autumn Winter 2013 collection - The Dunes. The offering
that has references of the artist, Tarek Al Ghoussein’s work
which re-imagines the desserts with a block of color, saw a
host of colors like orange, nudes, red, blue, grey, charcoal, beige,
white and midnight blue that instantly captured the landscape of the
desert (READ: Sand Dunes) which changes with color of the sky.
The enchanting and luxurious journey to the desert, in quest of a final destination was wonderfully reflected in the form of easy and body accentuating (READ: pencil fitting saris , skirts and dresses) silhouette, layering, clean cuts, luxurious trunk bags and Mahatma Gandhi style sunglasses. Apart from pencil fitting saris skirts and dresses, the collection also featured maxi skirt gowns with aesthetically woven prints, short dresses, and voluminous skirt with leather appliqué, anarkalis with embroidered bodice, high neck tops, flowing evening gowns and structured jackets – with an immaculate fusion of ethnic and western sensibility. Keeping in mind the need of the new breed of globetrotting, style and image conscious Indian men, the designer duo offered an impressive array of cotton jackets, sherwanis, kurtas, bandhgalas and narrow ankle pants. The look was further accentuated by their signature pashmina layering on various pieces.
Fabrics like
cotton, net, wool, organza, silk and leather effortlessly played and complemented
the essence of this collection that celebrated the very idea of a luxurious traveler.
