Shantanu & Nikhil A/W' 13 at WIFW (The Dunes)

 


Drawing inspiration from the imagery of the countless journeys that the Great Indian Desert has experienced over centuries, designer duo  Shantanu & Nikhil christened their latest Autumn Winter 2013 collection - The Dunes. The offering that has references of the artist, Tarek Al Ghoussein’s work which re-imagines the desserts with a block of color, saw a host  of colors like orange, nudes, red, blue, grey, charcoal, beige, white and midnight blue that instantly captured the landscape of  the desert (READ: Sand Dunes) which changes with color of the sky.

The enchanting and luxurious journey to the desert, in quest of a final destination was wonderfully reflected in the form of easy and body accentuating (READ: pencil fitting saris , skirts and dresses) silhouette, layering, clean cuts, luxurious trunk bags and Mahatma Gandhi style sunglasses. Apart from pencil fitting saris skirts and dresses, the collection also featured maxi skirt gowns with aesthetically woven prints, short dresses, and voluminous skirt with leather appliqué, anarkalis with embroidered bodice, high neck tops, flowing evening gowns and structured jackets – with an immaculate fusion of ethnic and western sensibility. Keeping in mind the need of the new breed of globetrotting, style and image conscious Indian men, the designer duo offered an impressive array of cotton jackets, sherwanis, kurtas, bandhgalas and narrow ankle pants. The look was further accentuated by their signature pashmina layering on various pieces.

Fabrics like cotton, net, wool, organza, silk and leather effortlessly played and complemented the essence of this collection that celebrated the very idea of a luxurious traveler.
