Sneak Peek: “Untold Story” JD Annual Design Awards Night 2016 (19th & 20th May)

JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore will organise its 28th Annual Design Awards Night, a two days of fashion runway show on 19th and 20th May, 2016 at the Lalit Ashok Hotel in Bangalore. The theme titled, ‘Untold Story’ is conceptualized with an initiative to narrate the undisclosed sagas of India’s artisans, craftsmen and weavers, thus acknowledging and  celebrating the rich heritage of our country’s textile and clothing history.

Apple officially enters the world of Fashion with its first Met Gala

For its upcoming Spring Exhibition in the month of May, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York will re-examine the relationship between fashion and technology and how the industry has embraced the idea of reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear. The annual event will explore spectrum of practices whereby the hand and the machine are mutual protagonists in solving design problems.

Delhi based designer, Suket Dhir wins the 2015-2016 Menswear International Woolmark Prize

Delhi based designer, Suket Dhir has won the 2015-2016 Menswear International Woolmark Prize at Pitti Uomo, an important international menswear event, in Florence on Wednesday, 13th January.

The modelling industry is extremely unpredictable and notoriously difficult to get into. There are plenty of models who come and go every day. In this ever competitive industry only a very few can survive and are able to make a mark for themselves. Bruce Jenner is Caitlyn Jenner Now

Bruce Jenner, the Olympic gold medalist who was lauded as one of the greatest sportsman on earth has unveiled himself as a woman on the cover of the Vanity Fair. Shot by legendry photographer Annie Lebovitz, Bruce is renamed as Caitlyn on the cover of the magazine. This is the first time Caitlyn is photographed for a magazine post her complete gender transition surgery from male to female and tells her story to the world in a very intimate interaction with Pulitzer Prize winning author and editor Buzz Bissinger.

Schiaparelli appoints Bertand Guyon as the new design director

After months of speculation and guessing games, the house of Schiaparelli, the Parisian Couture label has announced Bertand Guyon as the new design director, replacing Marco Zanini. Bertand will be responsible for both - haute couture and ready to wear collection. A graduate from renowned École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, Guyon has worked as a designer for Valentino, Givenchy and Christian Lacroix.

In a message to its readers worldwide, style.com has revealed that by fall 2015 its website will be converted into Condé Nast’s global e-commerce business venture, replacing the site’s daily fashion show coverage, industry news, and more.The editorial content including the fashion and runway coverage will be moved to a new fashion show channel, Voguerunway.com, managed by Vogue USA.

Yes, according to a new survey by Bronto Software, it states that 30 percent of men are more likely to shop online during the weekday, while only 18 percent of women claim to do so.

Fashion designers (Read: The Creative Class) of all kinds rely on inspiration for their work in order to bring in something new and innovative. However, if an inspiration restricts creativity and one creates the exact replica of an inspiration without any newness, then there is a serious problem. As a creative professional, one should make a conscious effort to find his/her unique interpretation of an inspiration. I believe, it is very important for a creative person to be inspired, but inspiration should not be a literal interpretation and replication of the already existing work. One should use inspiration and build on it, create something totally new, and leave something behind that has the potential to inspire the rest.

Can ‘Make in India’ really work, when we have moral police brigade as the custodian of our arts, crafts and even fashion shows?

On Sunday evening, the Lakme Fashion Week’s grand finale show by Anamika Khanna was supposed to be held at Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai. However, a group of MNS workers (Read: goons), protested against the fashion show on moral grounds, tore down curtains and even threatened to vandalise the venue of the 143-year old museum, if the fashion show was not called off. Considering the security issues, at the very last moment the organisers decided to shift the finale show back to the Palladium hotel, the main venue for the fashion week.
