Tarun Tahiliani presents an Artsy collection inspired by the works of ‘The Singh Twins’ “ Lakme Fashion Week S/R15

The master of drapes, Tarun Tahiliani presented an impressive artsy collection, inspired by the contemporary art works of the British –Indian sisters, The Singh Twins. The Singh Twins, Amrit and Rabindra Singh are well known for their excellence in miniature paintings, and Tarun with his unique design aesthetics transformed the paintings into contemporary digital prints. The collection was an eclectic mix of summer colours such as yellow, shades of blue, orange, red, peach and pink combined with subtle white.

Sarees are no more about those heavy zari work, sequins, overdose of bling, never ending drapes and large borders. With the change in time, the idea of a Sarees too has changed. 2014 was a fabulous year for Saree styles, and some of the looks, because of its modern yet traditional draping style, were definitely ground-breaking in its own way- a year when simplicity married elegance. While traditionalists might not agree with all the looks, however personally i believe fashion is also about breaking the norms, believing in individual style and having fun.

Academy nominated and American actress Gabourey Sidibe is featured in the fashion editorial for Harper’s Bazaar’s September 13 issue. Titled “Singular Beauties,” the editorial paid homage to the diversity of women from various walks of life minus any prejudice against colour, body size, age or creed.

Tarun Tahiliani - Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2013



Master of drapes and ace designer Tarun Tahiliani’s bridal collection at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 was a spectacular presentation of age old Indian drapes in various forms. In spite of ornate embroidery and exquisite traditional thread-work, the collection infused a surprising element of lightness to bridal wear, a high point that will appeal to every modern Indian bride. The show was presented in a backdrop of a beautifully choreographed contemporary dance performance by the students of Bangalore based Attakkalari centre for movement arts. The dance troupe immaculately portrayed the three themes of the collection – the Gold, Enchanted Forest and Man of the hour.

Aishwarya Rai wore a Tarun Tahiliani saree at the amfAR's 20th Annual Cinema Against AIDS gala event at festival de Cannes 2013. “The Ultimate Gold Collection Fashion Show,” curated by Carine Roitfeld , showcased a range of gold jewellery from established and emerging jewellers to be auctioned later for the cause.

Tarun Tahiliani A/W'13 at Wills India Fashion Week




Tarun Tahiliani’s offering for Autumn/Winter’13 was inspired from Mahakumbh and was truly a celebration of a country called India and its mystical layers. For his inspiration, Tahiliani, the genius traveled to Kumbh in Allahabad to document the drapes of the sadhus and his journey combined with expertise and vision resulted in creation of  a collection that boasted of fabulously structured contemporary drapes. The collection was indeed a story of the drapes.
