Kiran Uttam Ghosh’s woman is a world citizen, who has no
qualms embracing her roots, but with an unapologetic contemporary twist. She
appreciates the unique personality of her clothes, which is authoritative yet
delicate.
In her latest collection,
global silhouettes juxtaposed with local handcrafted textiles. Dhakai, Maheshwari,
Taant weaves, ikat, Chanderi, Benares brocade, and Fulia effortlessly merged with
crepe, georgette, chiffon and perma creased ones.
With a varied colour palette of powder blue, red,
aubergine, ivory, shellfish, nude, coral, blackberry, and gold, the collection
offered range of pieces, Maheshwari cape layered over a shirt dress, handloom saris,
pleated dresses, ponchos, trousers and slouchy tents, some with interesting embellishment
details. The look of a plain white shirt worn with a Banaras skirt and an oriental
obi sash was outrageously global but with an ethnic twist.
