Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall Winter 2013 offering was an ode
to the richness and glory of the Roman heritage. Byzantine mosaic print silks,
gold embroidery, intricate jewel encrusted dresses , bejeweled crowns, rosary
beads, velvet pumps with jewel encrusted heels and of course the signature craftsmanship and
tailoring of the label in a rich color palette of glittery yellow, ruby red, green and blue ,instantly
took us to the splendorous days of the
royal and pre-renaissance era.
The Byzantines preferred keeping their clothes flowing,
hence except for few pieces like the A-line skirts, corset dresses and gold
filigree bustier embellished with stones, the silhouette of the remaining
pieces were kept loose and billowy. To mellow down the brilliance of sparkle
and in fine contrast, a color palette of black, white and grey was infused in
the form of houndstooth, Prince of Wales checks and tweed – leaving an imprint
of British flavor.
The breath taking finale when a troop of models walked down the
runway in ruby encrusted glittering cardinal red lace dresses, it was anything but
spectacular, dramatic and divine.
