‘Impasse’ by Kallol Datta 1955: Lakme Fashion Week-Winter Festive 2015

Far from all the shimmer and shine, Kallol Datta is one of those rarest of the rare new age thinking designers who truly voices opposition to the established standard of fashion in India. A conversation starter, Kallol’s designs continuously breaks the conservative idea of garment construction – thanks to his exceptional technique. Abstruse and arcane, there is something subtly intriguing about his complex story telling nature.
Titled, ‘Impasse’ or a state of being that refuses to make progress, his latest collection offered an array of asymmetric pieces in cottons, crêpes and silks for both men and women. In pristine whites and greens, the collection featured unique drapes, generous layers, poetic pleats and innovative pattern and cuts, where each piece had an obscure and calm unpredictable essence to it.
