The new Versace man is “Subtle”, a word that we
generally don’t relate to the brand. Unlike brand’s previous collections which
were high on gladiator drama, loud colours, sometimes over the top Medusa prints
and often sexy with its underwear flashing trousers, the latest offering by
Donatella for the label’s Fall Winter 2015 revolved around the philosophy of classic
restrain.
In a warm and a neutral colour palette of Aubergine,
cocoa brown, midnight blue and gray the collection was all about the fabric, cuts,
construction and layering. Single and double breasted jackets with gold buttons,
some of them even had metal clasps instead of traditional buttons, cashmere
knitwear, shearling, mink coat, leather blouson, cable-knit cardigans, parkas,
lean ribbed tops and long coats, were layered over comfortable wide legged
trousers and fitted knit leggings. In fact the knit leggings were borrowed from
the women’s wardrobe.
It was a delight to see Versace’s departure from all
the dramatic excess, and try something totally new. The sole focus of the
latest offering by Donatella was only about design and classic yet contemporary
aesthetics, which in itself is a process of evolution for the brand. I love!
