Chanel Spring 2013 Couture

Chanel’s spring 2013 couture was presented on Tuesday (Jan 22, 2013) at Paris Haute Couture Week. Keeping his showmanship alive, Mr. Lagerfeld presented the collection against a backdrop of Mediterranean forest for which trees had been specially flown into the Grand Palais in the heart of Paris.

In a colour palette of navy, black, cream, white and red, the ladylike collection featured A – line jackets, glittering tweed separates and dresses with off the shoulder cape collars that highlighted the model’s shoulders – termed “frame shoulder” by the designer, a mix of tailored and billowing silhouette, floor length dresses with embroidery and sequined flowers, tulle, silk, layering of Chantilly lace, elbow length gloves and thigh high metallic leather boots.

Gothic styling and makeup was another highlight of this show. Smoky eye, dramatic hair accessories like feather, lace and tulle and wing shaped fake eyelashes added an element of theatrics to Karl’s Couture collection.

Keeping the drama alive, the finale of the show saw two brides walking down the runway together in a show to support the French gay marriage law. This show of support by Karl comes a week after protestors marched through Paris to demonstrate against French President Francois Hollande’s plans to legalize same-sex marriages in the country. Now that is Monsieur Lagerfeld ‘s way of doing things.
