The Tuxedo

-by Vikram Nanjappa for Stylefluid Trendz

The Tuxedo or the Dinner Jacket has made its appearance as a formal wear / black tie staple in India over the past few years. Previously one ran the risk of being mistaken for a member of the catering staff if one wore a Tuxedo in India. This is a welcome development for, as far as formal western wear is concerned, the Tuxedo is considered the epitome of formality. However we seem to have taken the Hollywood red carpet as our inspiration, which while certainly better than the Grammy red carpet, is not quite the right place to look for a classic piece of clothing. It is no surprise that we see a lot of downright howlers (Amitabh Bachchan  at Cannes) from India. A lack of understand seems to be the primary reason for these and it is time we took a good look at the Classic Black Tie look. Once we understand the classic we can contemporise it to our own individual tastes.

Lupita Nyong’o, in Christian Dior Fall 2013 Couture – BAFTA Red Carpet 2014

Lupita can do no wrong on the red carpet, undoubtedly one of the best dressed at the BAFTA’S 2014. The new darling of the fashion industry and the actress of ’12 Years a Slave’, Lupita Nyong’o was a complete show stopper on the red carpet.

Angelina Jolie’s powerful statement in, Saint Laurent – BAFTA Red Carpet 2014

Some of us would probably say her outfit is not appropriate for an event like BAFTA red carpet. I believe, this woman has always redefined the meaning of being ‘Cool’ and powerful. Her confidence brings in an element of easy chic vibe on the red carpet –extremely powerful yet beautiful.

The Suit : A Suit is the Gentleman

-by Vikram Nanjappa for Stylefluid Trendz

The Suit

The suit is considered by many to be an essential part of a gentleman’s wardrobe.  I, however, disagree. In my opinion a suit is ‘the’ gentleman. A man’s suit and the way he wears it tells you a lot about the individual. It is the defining garment that separates the men from the boys. However there are suits and then there are suits. And thus the question arises – what makes a suit a suit? One word sums it up – the fit.

Piiti Uomo – Where Dapper Dudes meets The Business of Fashion

-by Vikram Nanjappa*  for Stylefluid Trendz
Pitti Uomo is a trade fair (for menswear) held twice a year in the Italian city of Florence. Pitti Uomo has been around since 1972 and is organised by Pitti Immagine whose origins dates back to the early 1950s . Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana is the holding company which works to support the Italian fashion system.

Unfortunately Pitti Uomo does not receive the kind of coverage it deserves in the Indian fashion scene; hence we take this opportunity to present the details of the event and some of the styles that were worn by the attendees.
