Anju Modi transported us to a world of fantasy with her fairy tale inspired Autumn Winter 2015 collection. The collection breaks the monotonous and stressful life of routine and deadline, free from all the inhibitions, and celebrate the idea of a world filled with hope and happiness.
The princess of the fantasy world wore some interesting layered and draped pieces –a gown was paired with a black and white striped shirt, and a sari was worn with a cape that featured red floral motifs, including long asymmetrical dresses, wing capes, churidars, short jackets, and structured yet voluminous dresses. The wing shaped shoes, and the tiaras further added an element of storytelling to the collection, of the princess waiting for her prince charming and all set to fly away with him to a distant world of fantasy and love. For the prince charming, Modi offered an array of tailored pieces ranging from long coats and jackets to slim pants and suits.
Embroidered and hand printed motifs of swans, owls, pirate ships, castles, umbrellas, dolphins and waves were all direct references to the captivating yet subtle world of fairy tale books. With a colour palette of pastels, red and cobalt blue, the collection was weaved into a fabric story of handlooms, silks, georgettes and pashminas.
The collection was a story of an escape to a beautiful world where everything is possible, a carefree world filled with hope? After all, we all want to live happily ever after, NO?
