Label Spotlight: “Lacquer Embassy” by Nikhil Sharma: Dandy-esque & Effortless

A graduate from NIFT and a Masters in Design from Nottingham Trent University in the UK, New Delhi based designer-cum-stylist-cum-trend consultant, Nikhil Sharma’s men’s wear label “Lacquer Embassy” combines classic influences with modern culture, focusing heavily on attention to detail and minimalist silhouettes. In a country where ‘contemporary aesthetics’ of menswear are still at its nascent stage, Nikhil’s label is definitely one of those few brands that helps fill the void, a label that complements the essence of today’s modern dandy.

After his Masters Degree, Nikhil worked as a senior menswear designer in London for British high street brands such as Chilli Pepper and NEXT. Nikhil extensively travelled to many European and American cities for inspiration, and even visited factories in Turkey and other countries in South Asia to bring his designs to fruition. The global exposure coupled with years of expertise and vision is the reason behind the label’s meticulously edited capsule line of men’s shirts and pocket square that embodies the effortless sartorial style of a ‘global’ gentleman.

When asked about the thought behind the label name, Nikhil said,” -“Lacquer is a surface coating provided by a craftsman as a final finishing touch. It resonates with the words ‘polished’ & ‘finished’. The word ‘embassy’ denotes a space that contains what I love the most: a menagerie of my creations, accoutrements and thoughts, all brought together in a single institution. This space is here to make you a part of my ‘universe’. ”

Launched in September 2013, the label effortlessly combines relaxed elegance of youth and luxury with a definite sense of modern aesthetics. And this is why, in a short span of six months Lacquer Embassy has been featured in menswear portals & websites internationally -GQ,Harpers Bazaar Bride,Menswear Style,Man of Many,Elle,Metal Magazine,Dapperism,Versatile Gent,Sunday Guardian,Untitled Magazine and Fucking Young, just to name a few.

Apart from India, the label is now worn by men in Australia, Singapore, London and New York. “It makes me happy that the label is worn by metropolitan gents all around the world and not bound to a certain region.”Nikhil said.” The vision is to have more men wear the label all across the world -anyone (regardless of age) who appreciates good design, aesthetics and strives for a better quality of life. The brand embodies the sartorial style of the modern jet setting gentleman and I would like to continue working on it. I would also like to offer more categories & services gradually.”

I love the fact that Nikhil’s designs are not restricted to any particular era. His designs are a hybrid that reflects today’s lifestyles and spirit – both dandy-esque and effortless.
