After culling through various events, (Oscars,Golden Globe, Cannes, CFDA,Fashion Weeks and more) Stylefluid Trendz presents list of selected few people who stood out with their sartorial choices or decisions and the events that stayed back in our memory because of the way it was presented. The year saw some significant changes, moments or decisions being taken (Raf Simons taking over Dior, Hedi Slimane replaced Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander Wang took over for Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga) in the world of fashion which changed the very history of the iconic fashion houses thus bringing in a fresh perspective to the unpredictable and dynamic fashion industry. The year also raised questions (Dolce and Gabbana Blackamoor figures earrings) on sensitivity of the fashion industry while exploring its creative freedom and imagination.

Chanel’s Scottish Metiers D’Art Show
Chanel’s
signature Métiers d'Art show took place at Linlithgow Palace
earlier this week, a crumbling gothic Scottish castle and birthplace of Mary
Queen of Scots. The extravagant show featured Scottish textiles and prints. The
association between Chanel and Scotland
goes back to the time when Coco Chanel was in a relationship with the then Duke
of Westminster.

Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2013
The
set – Marc collaborated with artist Daniel Buren to create the eye grabbing
magical set. The set had four escalators with yellow stripes, emptying out on a
giant yellow and white checked runway. The escalators carried the models in
pairs, down onto the shiny yellow and white checked runway. It was indeed a
treat to watch the symmetry of the show, created by this fabulous set.

Giant Chanel beach bag in hula hoops (Spring Summer 2013)
During
Chanel’s Spring Summer 2013 show on 2nd October in Paris’s Grand Palais, the design genius, Karl
Lagerfeld sent Sigrid Agren down the runway wearing a giant white quilted
leather beach bag, balanced between two black hula hoops in a semi circle. This
bag was definitely a highlight of the collection.

Philip Treacy’s Spring Summer 2013 @ London Fashion Week
London milliner, Philip Treacy’s Spring Summer 2013 show was
an extraordinary and one of the most glamorous moments at the recently
concluded London fashion week. The legendry Irish milliner returned to the
runway after 13 years & dedicated the show to king of pop, Michael Jackson.
The show was a cast of all black models which in Treacy’s words, was a homage to the African woman and their
sensibility to dress up .A total of 25 black women sashayed up and down the
runway wearing Treacy’s creation and
outfits from MJ’s archive and oh so iconic ‘Thriller Jacket’.

6 months pregnant Raffaella Fico hits the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week
On Saturday, the 24 year old Italian model Raffaella Fico
turned quite a few heads when she took to the catwalk showing off her baby bump
at Milan Fashion Week. Raffaella seemed very comfortable as she sashayed up and
down the runway for Pin Up Stars wearing sexy bikinis and not so maternity friendly
gold strappy high heels highlighting her six months swollen tummy.

Earlier this week
(Sunday, September 16), Lady Gaga attended millinery Philip Treacy’s Spring
Summer 2013 show in London Fashion Week, and as always she kept it rolling by
wearing four outfits during the show. This was Treacy’s first runway show in 13
years. To open the show, Gaga took to the stage donning a hot-pink, floor
length shroud, neon veil and a sky high McQueen heel and declared “Welcome
to the show of the greatest milliner in the world, Philip Treacy. In the clothes of the late Michael Jackson”.

Vogue – The magazine and its covers (A short history)
Vogue Magazine, known as Fashion’s Bible is celebrating its
past. For its 120th Anniversary, last year the Fashion Magazine with
the contribution of Vogue contributor Dodie Kazanijian and international editor
Hamish Bowles launched a book – Vogue: The Covers, compiling the magazine’s famous
covers through the years. The book begins with the illustrated covers from the
magazine’s debut in December 1892 till date, capturing the evolution of
fashion, art, photography, culture and even sports. It is very interesting to
see how editors used to hire illustrators in the early days to show a new trend
or silhouette, which can be either be in art deco, painting, graphics or a
sketch.

It was just as recent at the
Geneva Auto Fair in March’12, I was lucky to see Mr. Stephan
Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini unveiling the outrageous speedster Lamborghini
Aventador J, which was designed from concept to the speedster in
approx. 45-50 days. All were astonished to see the roofless Italian bull as the silk satin cover was
lifted. And back home,
Bombay was honored on 26th of April’2012 to see Mr. Stephan Winkelmann launch the Lamborghini showroom.

after the heavy showers have passed by, I am driving down Hanging Gardens, lush
greenery on both the sides, the smell of rain, negotiating the s curve and the
dip, blasting to Paul Van Dyk music, the early morning health freaks cursing
me, open sunroof, strong breeze blowing into the car with the sound of the engine, wow
what a feeling, the Cooper S is just a bloody awesome sports car. Off to Café
Zoe for breakfast. It’s a thrilling experience to drive
the Cooper S.

Louis Vuitton collaborates with Yayoi Kusama
Continuing
his artistic collaboration, Marc Jacobs teamed up with legendry Japanese artist
Yayoi Kusama, known for her whimsical signature dot motifs. Prior to this Marc
had collaborated with Takashi Murakami in 2003 & Stephen Sprouse in 2001.
Kusama’s signature dots can be seen on everything ranging from clothes to
jewellery.

Paris Couture Week - Christian Dior Fall Winter 2012
This was one of the most awaited Couture show of the season. Royalty,
designers, editors, movie stars were all present to watch Raf Simons’s debut
couture show. Princess Charlene of Monaco, Pierre Cardin, Donatella Versace,
Diane Von Furstenberg ,Alber Elbaz, Marc Jacobs, Riccardo Tisci, Alaia,Anna
Wintour, Grace Coddington, Hamish Bowles, Alexandra Schulman, Sharon Stone and
Jennifer Lawrence were all present in equal attendance.

Paris Fashion Week - Jean Paul Gaultier Spring Summer 2013 (A trip to India)
Jean Paul Gaultier has a love affair going on with India
and his Spring Summer 2013 Menswear cllection is a perfect example of that. In one of his previous
interviews he had mentioned - 'In every collection I
have done, there is always an Indian inspiration. The nautical inspired
collection had a strong essence of India & its exotic craftsmanship (the
picture says it all) which was presented at Gaultier’s showroom in Paris’s Rue Saint Martin. With this
collection it is quite firmly established that India has definitely found a
significant place in global fashion.

Paris Couture Week - Atelier Versace Fall 2012
It was an emotionally charged show
for Donatella Versace who went back to the famous Ritz Hotel in Paris, home to her brother
Gianni's couture shows for eight years. Donatella drew inspiration from the
imagery of tarot card for this body conscious collection in pastel shades of
sky blue, lime green, ivory and raspberry pink to name a few.

Milan Men's Fashion Week - Gucci Spring/Summer 2013 (Mediterranean Summer)
Keeping the spirit of Mediterranean
spring alive, Giannini presented a collection of sleek jackets, monochromatic
suits, tapered pants, knit wears and foulard shirts in a blazing and energetic
color palette of apple green, crimson red, cobalt, lemon, electric & sky
blue, burnt orange & turquoise to name a few. Other key pieces were double
breasted jacket, which were fitted around the waist that added lot more
structure to this smart and youthful line up, black tux for the evening and net
stitched polo bringing in a feeling of lightness to the collection. Raffia and
cotton with washed effect perfectly complements this cheerful and cruise ready
collection.

Milan Men's Fashion Week - Bottega Veneta Spring 2013
With its easy going and relaxed silhouette, Bottega Veneta’s Spring
2013 line up was a celebration of spirit of freedom. The key pieces of the
collection by Tomas Maier were the loose pullover tunic tops something that
also resembled the ethnic Indian Kurta, single and double breasted jackets,
slim fitting suits with faded floral prints which looked like stains, tunic
with lace up details at the neck and fringes at the bottom & knitwear.
Milan Men's Fashion Week - Dolce & Gabbana Spring Summer 2013
A wonderfully refreshing concept by Dolce & Gabbana to use
non-professional models - students, waiter, lifeguard, fisherman, barber, house
painter and unemployed , ranging from 11 to 43 years of age, who came all
the way from Sicily to walk the ramp for their Spring/Summer 2013
show in Milan. A Sicilian live band in traditional costume, complete with
mandolins and tambourines played the folk music which brought Sicily to the
runway of Milan.
