The Medusa House did it again. The
signature Gianni style in the collection instantly takes you back to the 90s
when the Versace element was it its peak. The collection with a strong feel of
adrenaline rush was an ode to Donatella’s hero whom she described as a
“Pugilist - Part Rocky,
part Elvis, part Mr. T,".
Starting the show on a fleshy note – the design house presented its new
collection of trunks and briefs worn under satin robes and secured by dramatic
wrestling belts. This was no less than an explicit celebration of masculinity
(though the definition of masculinity has changed in the recent times :) ).
Other key pieces and features of the
collection were – sleeveless jackets to show off your ripping biceps and
triceps, broderie anglaise work on jackets, flashy suits, shirts with metallic
hue, jacquard weaves & floral prints.
Metallic hues (gold, silver &
copper), pink, black, blues & pastel shades from the Art Deco structures of
Miami completed the colour story of this Alpha male collection. Gladiator
sandals and leather holsters complimented the very essence of this masculine
collection.
“It’s dedicated to the gladiator —
not about physical fighting, but a man from that moment — and I was thinking a
little bit about the Memphis movement in the 1980s,” said Donatella about the
collection.
