Here are the top 28 news from the world of fashion in the year 2014.

The Girl who dared the 2014 Red Carpet: Rihanna

Love her or hate her, or we might even call her a clinical attention seeker, but there is no denying that Riri made the 2014 red carpet look lot more spicy and interesting. Her fashion choices, armed with naked confidence and poise, were truly daring yet chic and turned heads this year. The CFDA Fashion icon award winner of the year 2014 effortlessly dons both high fashion creations as well as absolutely daring outfits that do not leave much to the imagination. Her daring Adam Selman fishnet gown (or no gown) at the CFDA Award Ceremony was one of the most talked about news in fashion and has become an iconic moment.

And, the Style Icon of the Year 2014 is Lupita Nyong’o (Not a surprise)

Apart from winning an Oscar for her role in 12 Years a Slave, Lupita Nyong’o also seduced us with her impeccable red carpet  style and instantly  became fashion’s ‘it’ girl of the year 2014. The year truly belonged to this newcomer and without any questions, she is the Queen of 2014 Red Carpet style. A complete stunner, i love the way she played with colours on the red carpet.

Here are few dresses that made Ms. Nyong’o the Style Icon of the Year 2014.

20 Best Saree Looks of the Year 2014

Sarees are no more about those heavy zari work, sequins, overdose of bling, never ending drapes and large borders. With the change in time, the idea of a Sarees too has changed. 2014 was a fabulous year for Saree styles, and some of the looks, because of its modern yet traditional draping style, were definitely ground-breaking in its own way- a year when simplicity married elegance. While traditionalists might not agree with all the looks, however personally i believe fashion is also about breaking the norms, believing in individual style and having fun.

Christian Louboutin goes bubble bathing in Spring/Summer 2015 Look Book

Girls, would you like to take your Louboutins to the bathtub? I know you love your Loubs, but bubble bathing in them - is that a good idea? However, Christian Louboutin thinks otherwise. The Spring Summer 2015 look book, shot by Peter Lippmann and  titled ‘Water in Love’, suggests that  your Loubs are an extension of who you are and if you truly love your red bottoms then you should never take them off – even in the tub. Hmmm, it still does not sound that exciting to me – bath tub???

And, the number one goggled fashion trend of the Year 2014 is ‘Normcore'

The word Normcore (blend of ‘Normal’ & ‘Hardcore’), first coined by a New York based forecasting agency K-Hole, as part of the forecasting report “Youth Mode: A Report Freedom”, is declared as the number one googled fashion trend of the year 2014.The result was unveiled by the popular search engine  on its annual ‘ A Year in Search’ report . According to Vogue, the word means a collective, neutral blandness – eschewing obvious markers of luxury, fashion and distinctive style and instead opting for a lower key, cool look with a dash of athleticism and a whiny of the ‘90s.

When it comes to pairing super models, no one does it better than Burberry. After bringing Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne together for My Burberry fragrance earlier, now the British brand has brought together Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn for their vibrant technicolor Spring/Summer 2015 campaign. For 24 year old Jourdan, this is definitely a dream come true to be paired with 44 year old iconic Ms. Campbell, someone who has been a source of inspiration for her.  The British girls were shot by one of fashion industries’ most sought after photographer, Mario Testino.

Did Dior (Pre-Fall 2015) copy it from Atto Resort 2014 collection?

Is this resemblance a coincidence or straight-up copy, or a standard industry practice now? Raf Simons presented his Dior Pre-Fall 2015 collection yesterday in Tokyo, Japan. What really caught my attention were the sequined turtleneck pieces, which were the exact copy of the ones from Atto Resort 2014 collection. Intentional or unintentional, the striking resemblance naturally raises few questions :-)

Tommy Hilfiger Launches Jackets with Solar Panels to charge mobile devices on the go

Update your blog, listen to music, take selfies, check email and update your status on Face Book or other social media platform. Book movie tickets or watch live shows. When lost, navigate via GPS.  The list is endless. And all credit, for making our life smarter, goes to smart-phones (devices). They do make our life amazingly smart. But what’s really not smart about smart phones is its annoying battery drainage. It is almost like stranded in a barren island, no man’s land. Does that make me a smart phone addict? We all have experienced that panicky moment when you are on an interesting call with someone special or about to upload an amazing photo on instagram (being a blogger I can vouch for that :-) ) and your phone gives up on you. Personally, I can share multiple examples when I almost wanted to sue my smartphone company.

Rihanna goes ‘pretty much naked’ at the CFDA 2014 Red Carpet

Audacious!!! Well, she was pretty much naked. Known for her bold approach to dressing, Rihanna attended the CFDA Awards 2014 in Manhattan in this revealing custom, crystal-embellished fishnet number designed by Adam Selman. The transparent dress was embellished by 200,000 Swarovski crystals and was styled with matching gloves, headscarf and a pink fur shrug.
The dress leaves nothing to the imagination. The singer’s breasts and derriere were in full view. I wonder how many of them present at the event actually looked at her face.

Day 11: Paz Vega in Ralph and Russo Couture :Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Paz Vega wore a dramatic Ralph and Russo Couture gown at the premiere of ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ during the closing ceremony of the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. The black rose detail on the shoulder of the embellished gown and the gorgeous train looked absolutely uber-feminine and dramatic on Paz. She was flawless and looked stunning.

Day 11: Natasha Poly Vionnet Spring 2014 Couture :Cannes 2014: Red Carpet

Simplicity has its own elegance!!! The statement stands completely true for this particular look. Natasha Poly wore a beautiful Vionnet Spring 2014 Couture gown at the premiere of ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ during the closing ceremony of the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. I love the simple drama of this halter neck gown that featured a gorgeous V-Neck and a pleated skirt. There is something very charismatic about this simple look. What say folks?

Day 11:Uma Thurman in Marchesa: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Uma Thurman wore a white Marchesa gown at the premiere of ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ during the closing ceremony of the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. The crane details on the bodice and the back of the gown did look dramatic, however, in spite of all the drama going on, Uma looked pale and unflattering. The fit of the gown around her belly also looks little awkward. What do you have to say folks?

Day 11: Li Yuchun in Givenchy Couture :Cannes 2014: Red Carpet

Bold!!! Awful? Or is it about individual style? I reserve my comments. Li Yuchun wore an edgy Givenchy Couture jumpsuit at the premiere of ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ during the closing ceremony of the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. The black embroidered piece is definitely an unconventional pick for Cannes Red Carpet. Just like her previous look (see here) of the Cannes 2014 Red Carpet, she continued with her androgynous look. Do you like?

Saturday, 24 May 2014

Day 10: Uma Thurman in an Atelier Versace Gown : Cannes 2014 :Red Carpet

Gorgeous!!! Uma Thurman looked divine and statuesque in this canary yellow Atelier Versace Gown at the premiere of ‘Clouds Of Sils Maria’ during the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The cross over bodice and the graceful flowing train of the gown looked incredible on her. Uma looked every bit of a classic Hollywood beauty. And yes, after all the blacks and the whites, the Cannes2014 Red Carpet looks refreshing in this beautiful summery colour.

Day 10 : Araya A. Hargate in Zac Posen :Cannes 2014 :Red Carpet

Araya A. Hargate followed the princess route in this strapless Zac Posen gown at the premiere of ‘Clouds Of Sils Maria’ during the 76th Cannes Film Festival. But, in spite of all the voluminous drama of the gown and the train, she is still not selling it to me. May be the wrinkles!!! Or is it my OCD? ;) Do you like?

Day 10: Li Yuchun in Stéphane Rolland Spring 2014 Couture : Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Dramatic!!! This is what you call individual style. When it comes to carrying these kinds of pieces, one can completely rely on Li Yuchun.I adore her confidence, the way she carried the look. The Chinese singer and actress attended the premiere of ‘Clouds Of Sils Maria’ in this one of kind Stéphane Rolland Spring 2014 Couture piece during the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

Day 9 : Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in an Emilio Pucci Fall 2014 Gown:amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked stunning in an Emilio Pucci Fall 2014 gown at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. I love the interesting subtle cut-outs details of the gown combined with the colour that makes her look vibrant and super gorgeous. This is so effortless. Love!!!

Day 9 : Karlie Kloss in Chanel Fall 2011 Couture : amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

I wonder what’s with super model Karlie Kloss? Why is this young girl opting for pieces that does not flatter her or her age and makes her look aged? Ms. Kloss wore a navy Chanel Fall 2011 Couture dress at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. The colour does not complement her skin tone, neither the 20’s inspired design of the dress. And the flats!!! Do I have to say anything more?  May be she is a super model. but not super when it comes to her sartorial choice. She needs help.

Day 9 : Izabel Goulart in Emilio Pucci : amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Izabel Goulart wore a dreamy Emilio Pucci gown at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. I love the drama of this soft pink strapless gown with a beaded fitted bodice and feathers around the waist. Izabel looked beautiful.

Day 9 : Lara Stone in Gianni Versace : amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Ridiculous!!! Lara Stone wore a two piece black Gianni Versace number at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. The piece with intricate gold embroidery looked explicitly costumey, not apt for an event like amfAR gala. I get a strong belly dancer, the gypsy vibe from this look. What was she thinking?

Day 9 : Tony Garnn in Redemption Choppers:amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Isn’t she looking elegant? I wonder how someone can look so gorgeous in a lingerie inspired skirt and top? Tony Garnn wore a fluid top and skirt from a label called Redemption Choppers at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France.I love the fluidity of the look
combined with her poise and elegance. And, yes, her bright red lip colour accentuated her overall look. Perfection!!!

Day 9 : Dita Von Teese in Blumarine: amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Burlesque Dita Von Teese went floral in a black Blumarine gown at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. The sheer bold rose-print gown worn over a corset has an evident Boudoir feel. She completed the look with her signature hair- style and lip colour. I would say, only Dita could carry a piece like this on the red carpet. Seductively beautiful!!!

Day 9 :Jane Fonda in Atelier Vesace: amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Grand dame Jane Fonda, wore a soft pink Atelier Vesace gown at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. The gown featured a crystal beaded corset translating down the skirt, complementing 75 year ‘young’ Ms. Fonda’s super gorgeous figure. Personally, I don’t like the gown, but it is the lady wearing the gown who makes it look stunning with her grace and confident body language. What do you say folks?

Day 9 : Paz Vega in Fitriani Couture : amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

This is stunning. Paz Vega wore a gorgeous Fitriani Couture gown at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. The interesting sculpted hips of the gown combined with the train create An elegant red carpet drama. The gold waist belt adds an interesting element to her overall look.

Day 9 : Natasha Poly in Marni gown : amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Natasha Poly wore an emerald-green Marni gown at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. The strapless gown with an empire height peplum looked good on her.  Not many could carry this gown because of its unique peplum construction. Natasha did justice to the gown. Her dark kohl eye added an element of drama to her overall look.

Day 9 : Jessica Chastain in Givenchy Couture: amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Jessica Chastain wore a black strapless Givenchy Couture gown at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. Jessica looked classy in this gown that featured a textured fitted bodice and pleated skirt. She accentuated her beauty by pairing the gown with a gorgeous diamond necklace.

Day 9 : Jess Weixler in ‘Honor’ Fall 2014: amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Jess Weixler  wore a beautiful ultra-feminine ‘Honor’ Fall 2014 gown at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. I love the soft elegance and romanticism of this gown that featured a gorgeous petal neckline. The colour of the gown perfectly complements her skin tone. Now this is what you call Ethereal.

Day 9 : Riley Keough in Louis Vutton :amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Riley Keough shows us what not to wear, especially when it comes to attending gala events hosted by the likes of amfAR. Ms. Keough wore a Louis Vutton number at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. No matter how beautiful it is, the top and the knee length flared skirt combined with the boots is just not meant for an event like amfAR gala.

Day 9: Liu Wen wore Vionnet Spring 2014 : amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Liu Wen wore Vionnet Spring 2014 at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. I love the colour of the gown, it beautifully complements her. With with a plunging neckline and interesting cut out details, she looks pretty in this gown.

Day 9: Jourdan Dunn in Balmain:amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Jourdan Dunn wore a Balmain dress at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. The beautiful yellow dress with an intricate woven detail looked great on Jourdan. However, I strongly feel the dress is not appropriate for an event like amfAR gala. What do you have to say folks?

Day 9: Carla Bruni-Sarkozy in Maxime Simoëns Resort 2014 :amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

Former French First lady & model Carla Bruni-Sarkozy wore a Maxime Simoëns Resort 2014 at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala during the 67th Cannes Film Festival in France. She looked sophisticated in this strapless black gown with pearl embellished bodice.

Thursday, 22 May 2014

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Armani Privé : amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala: Cannes 2014 : Red Carpet

For the annual amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala, hostess of the event, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore a gorgeous Armani Privé gown at the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. The crystal beaded gown with a sheer yoke and layered cut looked delicately elegant and exquisitely uber-feminine. I love the freshness of the look, something very subtle and stunning.

She completed the look with Choprad Jewels and red lips that complemented the colour of the gown. But, her green eye shadow is a minor distraction in this otherwise perfect look. Do we ignore that? What say folks?
