Sneak Peek: Marionette by Rimi Nayak : Lakme Fashion Week S/R' 16

The theme "Marionette" (French word for Puppet) narrates the journey of a woman who unshackles from a life of obligation and oppression. In this process of liberation, she begins a journey to authentically express her true self without the fear of judgement or acceptance. Hence, she ceases to be a puppet in someone else’s hand and becomes the master of her own free will and destiny.

The collection has a wide range of colour palette signifying the essence of both the struggle and the freedom. Cold white and ice blue provide a pure, calming effect. There is a freshness for summer, though this is countered by the deeper shades of ebony and azure. The deep black as an accent narrates the darker side of the story symbolizing the pain and the struggle. Muted shades of brown and gold symbolizes hope while horizon yellow adds the happy note narrating freedom.

Fabrics used are hand- woven khadi cotton and denim along with satin and crepe. Digital printing technique is used to create various prints in correlation with the theme. Ripped and frayed denims narrates the story of the struggle. The hand done thread texturing portrays the entangled and caged life of the protagonist. Various intricate detailing in the form of keys and scissors highlights and captures the underlying concept of liberty. Tiny "puppet" shaped tassels literally adds to the concept element.

Different hand done textures along with prints bring alive a summer range of short dresses, cropped shirts, draped culottes and long dresses. A touch of androgynous detailing is omnipresent in the collection along with the flowy drapes.

The collection will be showcased on Thursday, 3rd April at the Lakme Fashion Week S/R 2016.
