Did you know it was Jennifer Lopez’s Versace Dress that led to the birth of Google Image Search?

And, you thought celebrity red carpet style does not make any difference in our life? Well, if you think so, then you are wrong. Next time you use Google to search images; don’t forget to thank Jennifer Lopez and her daring Versace gown she wore to the Grammy Awards 2000.

In an article posted to Project Syndicate, Google's executive chairman, Eric Schmidt described how Jennifer Lopez’a plunging green dress inspired the internet company to create the image search function.

"When Google was launched, people were amazed that they were able to find out about almost anything by typing just a few words into a computer," Schmidt wrote. "It was better than anything else, but not great by today's standards. So our co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin – like all other successful inventors – kept iterating. After all, people wanted more than just text."

"This first became apparent after the 2000 Grammy Awards, where Jennifer Lopez wore a green dress that, well, caught the world's attention. At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no sure-fire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: J-Lo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born."

Thank you, J.Lo for being daringly fashionable and making our online life much more meaningful.
