Pankaj & Nidhi, the husband-wife duo presented
an artistically mesmerizing Spring Summer 2014 collection at the Wills India
Fashion Week. The Grammar of ornament, the world renowned historical design
sourcebook published in 1856 by Owen Jones, a London born architect and
designer and one of the most influential design theorists, formed the base for
the designer duo’s fabulous collection.
Exquisite in nature, the collection offered pieces which
were painstakingly hand cut by skilful masters to create patterns and details
resembling laser cut or prints. Leaving no room for doubts, the show note
clearly mentioned that nothing in the collection is a laser cut, it’s all dexterously
handmade. The super innovative duo also invented a technique to create three
dimensional appliqué by layering tiny biscuits of hand cut fabric over silk and
tulle which resembled the beauty and grandeur of mosaic art work. In a colour
story of white, blue, coral, grey and summery yellow the collection offered
pieces ranging from body con dresses and boxy jackets to training pants and
gowns.
This is a collection that completely stands out for
its human precision, design innovation and artistic vision. Easily one of my favorites!!!
